All screening in the terminal, AeroTrain to the gates
Dulles puts all its screening in the main terminal, with East and West checkpoints plus a dedicated PreCheck checkpoint, all on the ticketing level. After you clear, a 24-hour underground AeroTrain carries you to Concourses A, B and C in under two minutes, and Concourse D is a short walk from C. One clearance reaches every gate, so any open checkpoint works. United is the hub carrier.
A dedicated PreCheck checkpoint, CLEAR at two
There is a stand-alone TSA PreCheck checkpoint on the ticketing level in addition to the East and West checkpoints, and all of them feed the same AeroTrain to the concourses. CLEAR Plus kiosks are at the East checkpoint on the lower level and at the entrance to the PreCheck checkpoint. Since one clearance reaches every concourse, use whichever checkpoint or program has the shorter line.
